Malappuram: Four people, including a couple, were arrested with MDMA, a deadly drug, at the Malappuram transit checkpoint. Aslamuddin CP and his wife Shifna, natives of Mancheri Karakunn, Mohammad Sadat, native of Kavanur, and Kamaruddin NK, native of Vazhikkadavu, were arrested. 75.458 grams of MDMA was seized from them. Nilambur Range Excise Inspector C Santhosh arrested the accused when they went to Bangalore with their family and tried to smuggle MDMA through the check post in three vehicles.
The couple tried to smuggle drugs using children as cover. An infant and another seven-year-old child were with them at the time of the arrest. Their plan was to take MDMA from Bangalore and bring it to Kerala through the Gudalur Nadukani Pass. They came to Gudalur in a jeep and then traveled on a bike. It is believed that they have taken this route thinking that those who come on bikes with children will not be checked much. Aslamuddin and Shifna were on a bike with their children, Muhammad Sadat was on a jeep and Kamaruddin was on another two-wheeler. When they came on a bike in extreme cold, the baby had health problems and they sought treatment at the hospital.
