Kozhikode: Four employees of Karipur Airport were arrested for helping gold smugglers and attacking DRI officials. The DRI has taken into custody four people who helped smuggle gold through the airport. The cleaning supervisors at the Karipur airport were taken into custody.
The DRI now concludes that the gold was smuggled into the airport from abroad by multiple passengers. The search for Fazal, a native of Areekode Pathanapuram, who fled from Karipur after attacking DRI officials yesterday, has been intensified.
The attack took place on Airport Road yesterday when a group of people tried to smuggle gold into the airport. When the DRI team reached the bike and waved at the Innova car, they were knocked down.
DRI officer Albert George and driver Najeeb were injured in the attack.
Najeeb’s injury is serious. The car went out of control and hit a tree on the side of the road. Nisar, a native of Koduvalli, was arrested for being the leader of a gold smuggling gang in a car. The gold was smuggled in mixed form. Indications are that it was passed by customs inspection.
It is estimated that the gold hidden in the airport’s toilet may have been leaked by the staff. The DRI tried to inspect the car based on the confidential information obtained.
