Guwahati: Five earthquakes have shaken the northeastern region in the last 24 hours, officials said. The last of these occurred in Assam at 1.07 am on Saturday. The severity was 4.2, according to the National Center for Seismology.
The epicenter was reported near Tezpur, the district headquarters of Sonitpur district, at a distance of 30 km. Two more quakes measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale shook Assam on Friday morning. The source was Sonitpur district itself.
Meanwhile, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake shook the Chandal district of Manipur. A magnitude 2.6 earthquake shook the West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya on Friday. However, no casualties or property damage were reported in the quake. On April 28, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake shook Assam.
