Dog squads to search for missing persons in Wayanad disaster. Eleven dogs trained by the Army, Police and Tamil Nadu Fire Force are on duty at Churalmala, Mundakkai and Samlimattam.
Dog squads are on the scene to search places that are difficult for machines to reach. Today’s search was focused on areas where rock and soil accumulated. Since the disaster, several bodies have been found buried under the ground with the help of Svana Sena. These heroines are accompanied by coaches as guides who are capable of overcoming difficult paths and weather conditions.
The team consists of Maggie of Wayanad Dog Squad, Maya of Kochi City Police Dog Squad, Murphy and Angel of Idukki Dog Squad in Nilambur. The dogs are deployed to locate the injured in the accident.
More than 15 dead bodies have been found so far from Mundakai alone.
Some dogs give a signal by coming to the places where the dead body is lying and barking. At other times, the soil is scraped with both hands. There are tails that are also indicative. The tests are based on the information given by the trainers who understand the signals given by the dogs.
