Kottayam: District Collector’s order to close KR Narayanan Visual Science Institute from today till January 8. Students have also been advised to vacate the hostels. There are reports that there is a possibility of untoward incidents during the hunger strike of the students starting from December 25. It is also warned that this will hurt law and order.
Students protesting against caste discrimination have been going on here since December 5. Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), a women’s group in the film industry, came to the scene in support of the students. In a Facebook post, WCC expressed its full support and solidarity with the students and staff who are protesting against injustices and caste discrimination in the college.
It is very important to have an environment that does not diminish the creative energy while studying cinema and working in cinema. We all know that places where conditions such as denial of fundamental rights, discrimination, and lack of security exist are barriers to the growth of the comprehensive art of ‘cinema’ and those who participate in it. Based on this knowledge, the Women in Cinema Collective declares its full support and solidarity with the students and staff of the KR Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts, who are protesting against injustices and caste discrimination with a democratic consciousness,’ the WCC said through a Facebook post.
