Thiruvananthapuram: The District Disaster Management Authority has banned fishing, coastal transport and tourism in the coastal areas of the district following the Central Meteorological Department’s warning of a cyclone in the Arabian Sea. A fishing ban has been imposed in the coastal areas of the district until further notice due to the possibility of rough seas and high waves. The Deputy Director of Fisheries has been instructed to take steps to bring those who are currently engaged in fishing to the nearest safe shore. Except for essential services, transportation and tourism to the coastal area of the district is prohibited.
The Chief Executive Officer of the District Disaster Management Authority issued an order instructing the Deputy Director of Fisheries to set up camps in the areas prone to sea attacks and to put in place necessary equipment to secure fishing conditions. It is also proposed to prepare 24-hour special control rooms of the Fisheries Department in the coastal areas until the threat of cyclone is over.
