Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in the state till Monday.

Widespread rain is forecast in the state on Thursday. A cyclone has formed off the coast of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu in the south-western Bay of Bengal.

The low-pressure area formed in the southeastern Bay of Bengal is presently located above the southeastern Arabian Sea and above Lakshadweep. The Central Meteorological Department said the low-pressure area is likely to move north-northwest over the next 48 hours.

A yellow alert was issued on Wednesday in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.

A yellow alert will be declared in all districts except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, and Thrissur on Friday. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts are likely to receive heavy rains on Saturday.

A yellow alert was declared in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts on Sunday and in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts on Monday.
