Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in the state today. There is a warning that more rain is likely in Central Kerala and North Kerala today.
Southern Kerala may receive rain at intervals. The yellow alert is on in Idukki, Malappuram, and Kasaragod districts today. The current assessment is that the atmosphere is ready for the monsoon break during the rainy season. There is currently no hindrance to fishing on the Kerala coast.
Meanwhile, the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam has crossed 135.80 feet. The water level has been rising slowly as rains and water flows have reduced. About 2600 cubic feet of water per second flows into the dam while Tamil Nadu takes 1867 cubic feet per second. According to the current rule curve, 136.50 feet of water can be stored in the dam. Tamil Nadu has decided that it is enough to open the spillway shutter only if the upper rule is close to the curve and the rain continues to be heavy. Idukki District Collector has written a letter to Theni Collector to warn them if the shutter has to be raised. The water level in the Idukki dam has reached above 2367.86 feet. According to the current rule curve, a blue alert will be issued once the water level reaches 2369.95 feet.
