Thiruvananthapuram: The auto taxi strike which was to be held from midnight today has been postponed. The strike was adjourned after the minister assured a favorable decision. The strike was announced by the Joint Strike Committee.
The strike was called off after Transport Minister Antony Raju held talks with the Autotaxi workers’ unions. The minister said strict action would be taken to curb counterfeit taxi autos, which are the main complaint of the workers. Amendments to the law will be considered against such persons, including revocation of licenses. He said issuing permits to e-autos would be considered.
Auto workers are in crisis amid rising fuel prices and rising commodity prices. The workers want the auto minimum charge to be at least five rupees higher than the current one. The strike was called to demand an increase in auto taxi fares, the removal of GPS on older vehicles, the extension of the demolition law to 20 years and the imposition of a permit on auto-rickshaws.
