Idukki: All the shutters of the Mullaperiyar dam have been closed. The shutters were closed due to the low flow of water to the dam. The current water level of the dam is 141.90 feet. The amount of water carried from Mullaperiyar to Tamil Nadu has been reduced. It was reduced to 900 cubic feet per second.
When the water level in Mullaperiyar reached 142 feet yesterday, the shutters of Tamil Nadu were opened in the morning without giving proper warning. The water level in the Periyar rose by more than four feet. Many houses in the Manjumala Atoram area were flooded.
Minister Roshi Augustine said yesterday that he would lodge a complaint with the Central Water Commission against the release of water without warning. He said that Kerala is ready to face the rising water level in the Mullaperiyar Dam.
