The release of Abdul Rahim, a native of Kozhikode, Farokh Kodampuzha, who has been in a Riyadh jail for 19 years in the Saudi boy’s murder case, will be delayed. The matter of his release has not been decided yet. The criminal court in Riyadh has postponed the case for the eleventh time. The sitting began at 8.30 am on Monday but was postponed to another day. Abdul Rahim and the defense lawyers participated in the online court from jail.
Abdul Rahim, who arrived in Riyadh on November 28, 2006 at the age of 26, is in prison for the death of the 15-year-old son of Saudi citizen Faiz Abdullah Abdurahman Al-Shahri, who was sponsored by him, while working on December 24. Rahim has been imprisoned in Iskcon Prison in Riyadh for 19 years. However, the court had absolved the death penalty five months ago after the prosecution accepted compensation and pardoned him. The pending case under public law is causing the prison release to drag on indefinitely.
1.5 crore Saudi riyals (over 34 crore Indian rupees) collected by Malayalis worldwide were given as compensation to the family of the deceased Saudi boy. Following that, they pardoned him and the court overturned the death sentence
