Kozhikode: A 12-year-old boy who is in critical condition in a private hospital in Kozhikode has been diagnosed with amoebic encephalitis. The disease was confirmed by a PCR test conducted at the Pondicherry lab.
Earlier, the child was diagnosed with amoebic encephalitis in a private hospital. The result of the examination in Pondicherry was also awaited for confirmation.
The result was released yesterday. Primarily, treatment was initiated based on early detection of the disease. Dr. Abdul Rauf, Pediatric Department of the private hospital, said that the child’s condition is still critical.
The test results of the water in the Achanambalam pond near Farook College, where the child bathed, are not available. The municipality had banned public use of the pool and took further action.
A 13-year-old native of Kannur died of amoebic encephalitis in a private hospital in Kozhikode earlier. Dakshina (13), daughter of Ragesh Babu and Dhanya of Kannur Thottada, died. Last month, a five-year-old girl from Malappuram also died due to the same disease.
