Kochi: 500 kg of stale meat was seized in Kalamassery. The meat was caught from the Mukalile Veedu in Kalamassery Kaipada.
The meat that was kept to be prepared and distributed in various hotels in Kochi including shawarma was caught. The inspection was conducted under the leadership of the Kalamassery Municipal Health Department.
It is reported that rotten chicken is being brought from Tamil Nadu. Health department officials say that the seized meat had also started rotting. During the inspection, 150 kg of stale oil was also seized.
The firm belongs to Palakkad native Junais. The establishment had five employees but none of the managers were present when the inspection took place. Health department officials said that so much meat was kept without a food license.
Officials said that the seized meat will be destroyed and the operators of the establishment will be fined heavily. For six months, meat has been supplied from this establishment to various hotels in the city. The employees told the officials that the meat was taken to various hotels in Kochi from here this morning as well.
