Thiruvananthapuram: Department of Public Distribution with the decision to distribute 24 items of daily necessities through ration shops.
The decision has been taken to shift the daily necessities being distributed through Supplyco outlets at subsidized rates to ration shops.
The agreement is to start the project tomorrow. Ration cards including rice, sugar, coconut oil, chilies, and peas can be purchased from ration shops.
Subsidized food items are now being distributed through Supplyco outlets, including Maveli stores. Three months ago, the government received a recommendation from the Director of Public Distribution to shift the supply to ration shops. With the implementation of this, the face of ration shops will change. Ration shops will rise to the level of supermarkets where you can get all the daily necessities together at a reasonable price.
Ration cardholders will also get relief from the hassle of having to travel to the ration shop and Supplyco outlets several times. As the number of Maveli stores, Supplyco supermarkets, people bazaars, and hypermarkets decreases, crowds will change. The government has directed that queuing of disabled and senior citizens at ration depots should be avoided and they should be given priority.
