Kolkata: Widespread conflict in West Bengal elections. Trinamool Congress workers and Congress workers clashed. Reportedly, 16 people including a CPIM worker were killed in the clash. The assailants burnt the ballot boxes in the polling booth in Cooch Behar.
The conflict related to the panchayat elections started from last night. Today morning at 7.00 am along with the polling, clashes between the party workers started in different places in the state. In Cooch Behar’s Baravitha Primary School, polling booths were vandalized and ballot papers were burnt. Two people were injured in Gitaldaha firing.
It is reported that 16 people were killed in the conflict. Among those killed were 5 Trinamool Congress workers, one worker each from BJP, CPI(M) and Congress and one booth agent of an independent candidate.
TMC activists vandalized the polling booth and prevented locals from voting at the Barasat Jikra FP School polling booth. The assailants also reportedly stole ballot boxes. CPIM activists have lodged a complaint with Governor Ananda Bose of Bengal. The activists told the governor that no one is safe.
