Puthucherry: Puducherry has made vaccination compulsory from today in view of the spread of omicron in the country. In the Union Territory of Puducherry, the Director of Health has ordered that the covid vaccine be made compulsory for all. The Puducherry government has said it will take legal action against those who do not receive the vaccine. The health ministry official said the decision was taken to ensure that the government provides one percent coverage to all eligible people and that there is no room for the virus to spread.
The vaccine is mandatory under the 1973 Public Health Act. Director of Health and Family Welfare Services Sriramulu made this clear in an order issued on Saturday night and said it would come into effect soon. The Puthuucherry government has taken drastic action on the grounds that people in many places are reluctant to take the vaccine.
Earlier, the Rajkot Municipality had announced that mobile phones worth Rs 50,000 would be given to those who get vaccinated. This is the first time in the country that the vaccine has been made mandatory. The Puthucherry administration had earlier tightened the procedures to include all those eligible for vaccination.
