Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has resigned. The unexpected resignation came less than four months after he came to power. He arrived at the Raj Bhavan with his colleagues at 11 pm and handed over his resignation letter to Governor Baby Rani Maurya.
At the same time, there are indications that the resignation was on the instructions of the BJP central leadership. Tirath Singh, a Lok Sabha member, became the Chief Minister in March, succeeding Trivendra Singh Rawat. At the same time, the constitution stipulates that an MLA must be directly elected within six months. It is reported that the decision to resign was taken because of the crisis in the by-elections in the covid situation.
He had until Sept. 10 to face the election. The resignation comes after a three-day visit to Delhi. He had met BJP national president J. P. Nadda and Amit Shah during his visit to Delhi. According to national media reports, Tirath Singh has handover his resignation to Nadda.
