New Delhi: Train passengers will be able to order food through WhatsApp. Train passengers can book food through e-catering system. The new system is being prepared through an interactive artificial intelligence chatbot.
According to reports, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has already started distributing food on some routes through the WhatsApp number +91 8750001323.
Currently this system is available only on select trains. It will be enabled in other trains also based on feedback and suggestions from customers,” the railways said in a statement.
A railway statement said that the e-catering services have been launched by IRCTC through its specially developed website www.catering.irctc.co.in and its e-catering app ‘Food on Track’.
The e-catering services through WhatsApp were conceived in two phases.
The first phase has already been implemented. Customers who book e-tickets by clicking on the link www.ecatering.irctc.co.in will be messaged a business WhatsApp number to select e-catering services.
Passengers can book meals of their choice from restaurants available at stations directly through IRCTC’s e-catering website without the need to download the app.
Next step is planning WhatsApp food booking and delivery.
About 50,000 meals a day are served to customers through e-catering services enabled through IRCTC’s website and app.
