Thiruvananthapuram: Transport Minister Antony Raju says there is nothing wrong with displaying advertisements on KSRTC buses. According to the current traffic rules, advertisements can be placed on vehicles with government permission. The government has given permission to KSRTC, a public sector organization. Anthony Raju said in Thiruvananthapuram that he will file a review petition and bring the matter to the attention of the High Court.
Yesterday, the High Court ordered that there should be no advertisements on KSRTC buses. The order of the High Court was taken in a voluntary case related to the Vadakencherry bus accident.
The court observed that advertisements on KSRTC and KURTC buses were against safety norms. No such ads. A division bench of the High Court comprising Justices Anil K Narendran and PG Ajith Kumar ruled that the advertisements distract the drivers of oncoming vehicles and are against safety norms.
Transport Minister Antony Raju stated that the High Court’s order not to display advertisements on KSRTC buses will put a huge burden on the corporation. KSRTC earns Rs 1 crore 80 lakh annually by allowing advertisements on buses. The Minister of Transport also stated that the implementation of the order will cause loss. The minister said that not only us, other states are also advertising on government buses.
The Transport Minister issued a warning to the tourist bus owners. No one should think that they can always get away with fines. Those who are not ready to pay the fine and repeat violators will be blacklisted, the minister said.
