New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha passed a bill linking Aadhar and the voter list. The bill was passed despite strong protest from the opposition. Congress Rajya Sabha leader Mallikarjun Kharge said the election reform bill was passed in Parliament without any discussion and was a mockery of democracy.
The voter list is in the name of preventing fraudulent voting. To make it legal, session 23 of Representation of the People Act 1950 has been corrected. Four opportunities (January 1, April 1, July 1, October 1) will be provided for adding names to the voter’s list instead of one chance.
The changes in the bill will be applicable after it is signed by the President.
