New Delhi: American drug maker Modena’s Covid vaccine, which Cipla imports, will be available in selected hospitals across the country by the middle of this month, according to a report. The Economic Times reports that by July 15, the modern vaccine will reach some major hospitals. Last week, the Drug Regulator approved the import of the Cipla modern vaccine.
The imported vaccine will be handed over to the Central Government and will be transported to hospitals in metro cities across the country where they can be stored. The vaccine requires a temperature of minus 20 C for up to seven months.
A temperature of 2-8 degrees Celsius is sufficient to store for a month. The vaccine is given in two doses at intervals of 28 days. The modena vaccine was found to be 90 percent effective against Covid. A senior government official said the modern vaccine would be available in hospitals where ultra-cold chain devices are available.
The good news is that the Joe Biden administration in the United States has decided to donate the vaccine to countries affected by the covid epidemic. The US may give 2.5 crore doses of the vaccine to India.
So far 35 crore doses of vaccine have been distributed in the country. The government aims to vaccinate all adults by the end of this year. covshield, covaxin, Sputnik V and Modena vaccines are approved in India.
