New Delhi: The Lok Sabha has passed the Medical Commission Bill. The bill stipulates that the Center will set the standard for private medical colleges in the 50 percent seat fee.
Admission to all institutes including AIIMS will be based on NEET, a national level medical entrance exam. The Central government will fix the fee for 50 percent seats in private medical colleges. The MBBS final year exam will be a single across the country. The same exam marks will be the base of admission to the MD course.
States must establish state medical councils. Indian Medical Council will be dissolved. Instead, independent boards will be set up under the Medical Commission to accredit medical colleges – and so will the provisions of the National Medical Commission Bill. The 25-member National Medical Commission has ultimate authority on all matters on the medical field.
The Health Minister dismissed the opposition’s the allegation that the Center was trying to gain power over the states, including medical colleges’ fees.
