Chandigarh: The district administration has revoked permission for prayers at eight of the 37 places scheduled for Friday prayers in Gurgaon. The government said in a statement that the decision to cancel the permit was prompted by opposition from residents and resident welfare associations.
The statement added that the government’s consent is required for worship in public and open spaces. The statement said that prayers can be offered in any mosque, Eidgah, privately or at a designated place. The government has said it will not allow worshipers in other parts of the country if there is opposition.
The district administration has set up a committee comprising Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Yash Garg, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Assistant Commissioner of Police, and members of religious organizations and civil society to look into the matter and give permission for future prayers.
The district administration said the committee would discuss the issue with the communities to resolve the issue and ensure that the locals do not face any problem in performing prayers in the area.
