New Delhi: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has found that a combined test of Covaxin-Covshield vaccines has yielded excellent results in a study of 18 individuals in Uttar Pradesh who received two vaccines by mistake.
The study found that the combination of adenovirus vector vaccine and whole virion inactivated corona virus vaccine was safe and enhanced immunity.
India has followed a homologous approach of giving two doses of the same vaccine. However, in Uttar Pradesh, 18 people were accidentally given doses of both vaccines. The first dose was given to those who injected covishield, the second time to covaxin. This was followed by the ICMR study.
The study found that people who received doses of two different vaccines had higher immunity against the alpha, beta, and delta variants. Officials say this will help strengthen the covid defense. Experts believe that this will help alleviate the shortage of vaccines.
At the same time, it has been suggested that no one should automatically take doses of two vaccines until the government gives an official directive in this regard.
