Thiruvananthapuram: The Central government has said that food kits will not be allotted to any state. Only rice and wheat are being distributed to the States and Union Territories through various schemes. Priority groups are given 5 kg of rice and Antyodaya Annayojana is given 35 kg of rice per month. During the lockdown in 2020, five kg of rice/wheat was provided to foreign workers.

This was stated in a reply given by the Union Ministry of Food and Public Distribution under the Right to Information Act to Ajay S Kumar, a native of Thiruvananthapuram. The question was to which state the central government was providing food kits and how much was distributed.

Both the BJP and the Congress had propagated in the local body and assembly elections that the foodgrains provided by the central government were being bagged by the state government. K Surendran said in a press conference. K Sudhakaran MP also campaigned in this manner. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had asked why the kit provided by the Center is not available in other states.
