Srinagar: Army suspends use of ALH Dhruv helicopters. The operation was stopped following the order of the Union Ministry of Defence.
The decision has been taken in view of the frequent accidents of these indigenously manufactured helicopters. A soldier was killed in a helicopter crash in Dhruv, Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar on 4th of this month.
Dhruv helicopters have met with accidents three times in the last two months. On March 8, a Navy helicopter crashed off the coast of Mumbai. The reason was power loss that day. No one was injured. On March 23, a helicopter had met with an accident in Nedumbassery. The decision is made in this context. The Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard had earlier stopped using Dhruv helicopters.
