Chennai: Tamil Nadu government passes resolutions against citizenship law amendment. Chief Minister MK Stalin said the amendment was against the secular values of the Constitution. BJP members walked out of the assembly in protest of the resolution.
‘As a country with democratic values, it is essential to consider all types of people in society. But the Citizenship Amendment does not treat refugees, it divides them in the name of religion. Stalin called on the central government to withdraw the citizenship amendment to uphold the unity, class unity, and secular values of the country.
The Citizenship Act was passed in Parliament in 2019. The notification was issued on December 12 of that year. The notification came into effect on January 10, 2020.
