Chennai: From now on, taking selfies on the tracks or near the locomotives will result in a fine of Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,000, Southern Railway said. In addition, traveling by train door will be punishable by up to three months in jail or a fine of up to Rs 500.
Last week, three college students were killed when they were hit by a train while trying to take a selfie off the tracks near Chengalpet. In one year, more than 1,500 people died after falling from a suburban train. Everyone was traveling through the door.
In the last one year, the Railway Police has registered a case against 767 people who traveled through the gates. A case has been registered against 1411 persons for crossing the tracks.
