The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a liquor case. Kejriwal’s petition challenging the ED’s arrest was left to a larger bench and the bail was granted.
The order came from a bench of Justices Sanjeev Khanna and Dipankar Dutta. Kejriwal’s plea has been referred to a larger bench to examine whether an arrest is warranted under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Interim bail has been granted considering the imprisonment so far.
The court also said that a larger bench can review the interim bail order. At the same time, Kejriwal will remain in jail as he has been arrested by the CBI under the Prevention of Corruption Act in connection with the liquor policy. Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI on June 25.
