New Delhi: The Supreme Court made a historical verdict in the plea seeking whether the reservation can be made by states in the case of Scheduled Caste/Tribes in Government jobs in educational institutions.
The Supreme Court said, the sub- reservation can be imposed by state governments in such as government jobs and educational institutions.
The seven-member constitutional bench including Chief Justice DY Chandrachud delivered the verdict. The bench including Justices BR Gawai, Vikram Nath, Bela Mithl, Manoesh Mittal, Manoish Chandra Mishra and Satheesh Chandra Mishra considered 23 petitions regarding this matter.
The bench has considered the petitions which were passed by the Punjab Legislative Assembly in 2006, which was issued to the 50 per cent Valmiki and Massibi Sikh in government jobs. The petition of the Punjab government has also considered the petition of the Punjab and Haryana Courts against the Bill.
