Jaffna: The Sri Lankan navy has detained 14 Indian fishermen for allegedly fishing across the border. Fourteen Tamil fishermen and two of their fishing boats were caught off the coast of Ezhuva Island in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. They were handed over to the Jaffna Fisheries Department.
The arrested are from Rameshwaram and Mandapam. Earlier, 10 boats were seized by the Sri Lankan Army. Another 60 boats have been detained. Protests intensified in Rameshwaram demanding immediate action by the Central Government to release those arrested in Sri Lanka. The relatives of those imprisoned in Sri Lanka have announced that they will start an indefinite hunger strike from today.
