New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed that the process of evacuating slums in Jahangirpuri be stopped. The apex court’s verdict comes on the heels of an evacuation of illegal slums in Delhi’s BJP – ruled municipal corporation Jahangirpuri, where violence erupted between the two communities on Hanuman Jayanti on Saturday.
Nine bulldozers arrived at the scene. Authorities also used bulldozers to demolish structures near mosques in the area where communal riots took place.
Authorities began the demolition process early in the morning, according to a corporation order.
The Supreme Court intervened in a petition filed by Hind against Jamaat-ul-Ulma. It is alleged that the demolition is taking place in Jahangirpuri. The Supreme Court will reconsider the case on Thursday.
