Lucknow: The Lucknow court found that Malayali journalist Siddique Kappan, who was arrested after the Hathras incident, had links with the banned organization Popular Front. The reference is in the order rejecting Siddique Kappan’s bail plea in the ED case. The court also pointed out that Kappan went to Hatras to destroy religious harmony.
Maintained regular contact with PFI officers and attended PFI meetings. Financial transactions were made for terrorism. The money transfers made to the accounts of the co-accused are also for terrorism. The court also observed that Kappan left for Hathras as part of a conspiracy to destroy religious harmony.
While going to report the Hathras incident, Kappan was caught by the UP Police on October 7, 2020. Masood Ahmed, Siddique Kappan, Atiqur Rahman and Mohammad were arrested. Although the Supreme Court granted bail in the UAPA case, Kappan could not be released as he was not granted bail in the ED case.
