Ahamedabad: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi get setback in defamation case related to ‘Modi’ remark. The Gujarat High Court did not grant a stay on the Surat Magistrate’s Court’s verdict finding Rahul guilty. The verdict of the Gujarat High Court rejected Rahul Gandhi’s appeal seeking a stay on the magistrate court’s sentence.
The court pointed out that Rahul was constantly repeating the mistake. There are other similar complaints against Rahul. About 10 cases are pending. The High Court held that the judgment of the Surat Court in this case was appropriate and did not need to be interfered with. Justice Hemant Pracha delivered the verdict.
The Congress stated that it did not expect a favorable verdict from Gujarat and that Rahul will approach the Supreme Court against the verdict. Activists raised slogans in support of Rahul Gandhi at AICC headquarters.
The case is related to Modi’s remarks made in Kolar, Karnataka during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign. The court had earlier refused to grant interim protection to Rahul and adjourned the verdict in the case. Rahul’s appeal against the trial court verdict was rejected by the district court.
It is reported that the Election Commission will start the process for the by-election in Wayanad constituency as the High Court has upheld the judgment of the trial court.
