New Delhi: Rajpath, the most important road in the national capital, will be known as Kartavya Path from today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Kartavya Path and unveil the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at 7 pm today.
The reason behind the name change is the Prime Minister’s declaration that the vestiges of colonial rule will be wiped out and the spirit of slavery will be eradicated. This Rajpath, which was known as ‘Kingsway’ during British rule, will be known as Kartavya Path from today. After independence, the Hindi version of Kingsway became Rajpath. It was changed to ‘Kartavya Path’ as part of avoiding the British influence in the name. As part of the Rs 13,500 crore Central Vista development projects, the project to beautify the India Gate and Vijay Chowk areas, which cost Rs 608 crore, was started in February last year.
Bridges connecting canals on both sides with footpaths and a beautiful lawn on the sides have been prepared. There is a special system to avoid waterlogging in the lawns. 16 bridges over two canals on both sides. In the evening, another attraction is lights. The Prime Minister will also unveil a 28 feet tall statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in front of India Gate.
