New Delhi: The court ruled that wearing the hijab was not mandatory in the country. The court upheld the ban on the hijab. The court order states that the hijab is not an integral part of educational institutions. The Karnataka High Court said in the order that the order of the Karnataka government could not be quashed. The court rejected the petitions filed by the students.
Six students from Udupi have filed a petition against the college authorities’ ban on hijab in schools.
The High Court had in an interim order in the petition had banned the wearing of religious attire. A ban has been imposed on the city of Bengaluru in the wake of the High Court verdict. Tens of thousands of policemen were also deployed on extra duty.
