New Delhi: The price of packaged products including rice and wheat will increase in the country from today. The price increase is part of the tax imposed as per the decision of the GST Council meeting.
The state GST department has clarified that no tax will be levied on items that are weighed and sold without packaging. The opposition parties are preparing to intensify their protests in the country against the central government’s policy of increasing the tax burden in the face of severe price rises.
The central government has decided to levy the tax on all packaged food items, which was levied only on branded products. As per the GST Council decision, five percent of basic tax will be levied on food items. With this, the price of even non-packaged rice will increase. As per the decision of the 47th GST Council meeting, everything that affects the common man like wheat, pulses, milk, fish, pencils, hospital supplies, LED bulbs, and organic fertilizers will be taxed.
