Postal vote facility was provided for people above 80 years of age. But it has been amended for those above 85 years of age. Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Kaul informed that those above 85 years of age whose names are in the voter list can use this facility.
This gives an opportunity to those who are suffering from age-related diseases to vote without going to the polling station.
The Union Law Ministry issued an order in this regard after seeking the opinion of the National Election Commission. Those who want to vote in this way should submit an application to the Electoral Officer of the concerned constituency in the prescribed form within five days of receiving the election notification.
