New Delhi: UIDAI has mandated that the user’s consent be obtained in writing or through electronic media before authenticating Aadhaar.
This is stated in the new guidelines issued by UIDAI to the organizations as part of ensuring privacy.
Organizations that authenticate Aadhaar online must make the user aware of the type of information being collected. UIDAI’s statement also said that it should be clarified for what purpose Aadhaar is being authenticated.
A log book that records the steps taken to ensure the authenticity of the Aadhaar should be kept only for a specified period. The statement also said that action should be taken in this regard as per the law.
Requesting Entities is the name given to the organizations that provide the service of authenticating the Aadhaar of the residents of the country. Such organizations collect Aadhaar numbers and population-related information. UIDAI also asked the requesting entities to treat the residents with courtesy.
Confidentiality of the Aadhaar number should be maintained. The guidelines also state that during the process of authenticating Aadhaar, any suspected suspicious activity should be reported immediately.
