Mumbai: NDA candidate Rahul Narwekar elected as Maharashtra Speaker. Today, NDA won with the support of 164 votes in a close fight between BJP’s Rahul Narwekar and Shiv Sena’s Rajan Salvi. Mahavikas Aghadi candidate Uddhav Thackeray defeated Shiv Sena’s Rajan Salvi. Rajan Salvi got 107 votes.
This is the first time that official-rebel MLAs of Shiv Sena are coming face to face after the rebel movement. The Speaker’s election was seen as a semi-final battle ahead of the trust vote tomorrow.
The Samajwadi Party MLAs, who had earlier sided with the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance, abstained from voting. SP MLAs Abu Azmi and Raees Shaikh did not vote. The SP protested against Uddhav Thackeray’s move to the name of Aurangabad shortly before he resigned. After this, they refrained from voting for the Shiv Sena candidate. The rebel Shiv Sena MLA in Goa Mar reached Mumbai on Saturday.
