Imphal: In Manipur, 23,000 people were evacuated from the conflict-affected areas. They were shifted to army camps and other safe centers by the Assam Rifles and the army.
More than 120 units of Assam Rifles and Army have been deployed in various parts for rescue operations.The area has been under heavy surveillance by the Army for the past 24 hours. The army has also launched aerial surveillance in the area. Aerial surveillance including helicopters. The area including Imphal Valley is heavily guarded by the army.
The Army said that it is a relief that no other untoward incident has been reported in the area so far while the rescue operation continues. Curfew hours have been shortened to 7 am to 10 am. The official information coming out is that more than 55 people have been killed in the riots so far. Around 1500 people have taken refuge in the border areas of Assam. The Assam government has prepared eight camps for the refugees from Manipur.
