Chennai: Tamil Nadu today announced a complete lockdown in the state to tighten controls to prevent covid. The lockdown was imposed on Sunday as part of restrictions from January 9th. Restaurants are only allowed takeaway services from 7 am to 10 pm. Essential service workers are allowed to continue working. Police said they would seize the vehicles of those who left unnecessarily.
Public transport services in the state have been suspended. There is a lockdown on Sunday but you are allowed to attend family functions including weddings. Only 100 people are allowed. Other covid restrictions, including the partial closure of schools, kindergartens, and coaching centers and restrictions on public transport, have been extended until January 31.
A night curfew has been in place in the state since January 6. All places of worship across the state will be closed from January 14 to 18 to prevent crowds. Meanwhile, covid had confirmed 23,978 more people in Tamil Nadu on Saturday. This is the second day in a row that the number has risen to over 23,000 per day. Eleven deaths were reported on Saturday.
