Kolkata: Legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee has passed away. He was 85 years old. He was admitted to the hospital on October 6 due to a corona infection. He was hospitalized for about a month. Yesterday, the hospital authorities informed that the health condition of the star is very serious.
‘His life is maintained with the help of life-saving equipment. A 40-day struggle is not enough to heal. “Miracle must happen,” the doctor was quoted as saying by national media yesterday.
The actor was admitted to the hospital on October 6 with corona. He was shifted to the intensive care unit due to deteriorating health but was later reported to have improved health due to corona negative. But yesterday his condition worsened again.
Soumitra Chatterjee has changed the face of Bengali cinema and has worked with Satyajit Ray in over 14 films. The country has honored him with three national awards and the Dada Sahib Phalke Award in 2012.
Soumitra was born in Mirzapur near Calcutta Shialda railway station. Soumitra’s father was a lawyer and a government official. Soumitra, who used to act in school plays, later took acting seriously and decided that was her way. Wife: Deepa Chatterjee, children: Paulami Bose and Sougata Chatterjee.
