Kolkata: The country’s first underwater metro trial run has been successfully completed. The metro rail, manned only by officers and engineers, ran from Kolkata to Howrah along the Hooghly river bed.
Metro General Manager said that this is a historic event. After completing seven round trial, the regular service will start. It will be the deepest metro line in the country once the service starts. He said rail expected to cover the distance of 520 meters in 45 seconds.
The railway track is built at a depth of 33 meters below the surface under the river Hooghly. The area of the railway station is five lakh square feet. This is also a step towards providing modern transport system to the people of the state.
