Eight in the country, including Kappad beach in Kerala, gets International Blue Flag Recognition for Beaches. This is the first time that eight government-recommended beaches have been jointly approved and no other country has been able to achieve this.
Environment Affairs Minister Prakash Javadekar said. The Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognizable beaches. On the shores to get this recognition strict environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility standards must be met and maintained. India also ranks third in the world for best practices for coastal pollution control. The Blue Flag program is sponsored by the FEE Environmental Education Foundation of Denmark.
