Bengaluru: Karnataka Police has made it mandatory for all passengers in passenger vehicles in the state to wear seat belts. It has been decided to levy a fine on those who violate the law by not wearing a seat belt in the back seat. A fine of Rs 1000 for first time offenders and Rs 2000 for second time offenders.
The new order is based on the central government order that all passengers must wear seat belts. The law applies to all M1 category vehicles, which include vehicles with not more than eight seats in addition to the driver’s seat.
Recently, the Mumbai Police had made seat belts mandatory for all passengers from November 1, 2022. Motor vehicles without seat belts for all passengers must install them before November 1, 2022.
