Mumbai: Maharashtra cancels Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder manufacturing license. Taking into account public health, the Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration has taken action.
The government agency said in a press release on Friday that the powder produced by the company may affect the skin of newborn babies. The FDA said that the lab test found that the pH value did not meet the standard.
Samples of the powder were collected from Pune and Nashik and lab tests were done. The report also pointed out that the pH test conducted at the Kolkata-based Central Drugs Laboratory revealed that the powder did not comply with IS 5339:2004.
Following this, a show cause notice was issued to the company under the Drugs Cosmetics Act, 1940. The company has been asked to withdraw the product from the market.
At the same time, Johnson & Johnson Company is not ready to accept the test result of the government lab. The company has approached the court against the report.
