New Delhi: The Supreme Court quashes the case filed by the ED regarding the allegations of irregularities in the Kollam Edamulackal Cooperative Bank. The ED registered a case and started the investigation on the instructions of the Kerala High Court.
R Madhavan Pillai, who was the secretary of the bank, approached the Supreme Court against the High Court order. The order was given by a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Abhay S. Oka and P.B. Varale.
The bench headed by Justice Abhay S. Oka pointed out that there was no reason for the High Court to direct the ED to file a case. The Supreme Court also quashed the ECIR registered by the ED. Senior advocate Dama Seshadri Naidu and advocates P.S. Sudheer and Arun Chandran appeared for the petitioner.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has ordered that those facing physical challenges should not be excluded from the judicial service. The bench, comprising Justices JB Pardhiwala and R Mahadevan, also ordered that candidates facing visual challenges can be appointed as district judges.
The Supreme Court’s notable order was taken on its own motion on the basis of a letter complaining that those facing visual challenges are not being allowed to be appointed in the Madhya Pradesh Judicial Service. The Supreme Court has quashed Section 6A of the Madhya Pradesh Judicial Services Rules, which denies appointment to the visually impaired.
