New Delhi: India has resumed visa-free services for Canadian citizens. Entry visas, business visas, medical visas and conference visas are granted.
Recently, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar had stated that he is thinking of resuming the visa service. He had also said that the decision would depend on the safety of Indian diplomats in Canada.
Canada has already withdrawn 41 diplomats from India. Equality is sought through the Vienna Convention. Equality was sought because of concerns over continued interference by Canadian officials.
A diplomatic war between the two nations had intensified following allegations that Indian agencies were behind the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Niger. Following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations of the involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Nijjar, both countries had expelled their diplomatic representatives.
Following this, India temporarily suspended the issuance of visas to Canadian citizens. Ottawa was also asked to reduce its diplomatic presence in the country. Following this, Canada withdrew its diplomatic personnel from India.
