Five people have been arrested in connection with the attack on foreign students in the Gujarat University hostel. They were attacked for praying in the hostel during the month of Ramadan. The university has decided to shift them to a new place. It has also been decided to appoint ex-servicemen as security personnel.
Hitesh Mowada and Bharat Patel were initially arrested in connection with the incident. Later, Kshitij Pandey, Jitendra Patel and Sahil Dhudathia were arrested. The police have stated that efforts are on to arrest the rest.
Taking immediate action in the incident, the university has decided to shift the foreign students to a separate hostel for NRIs within three days. Retired army personnel have been deployed for the security of the hostel premises and an advisory committee of foreign students has also been formed.
The police have registered a case against 20-25 people who cannot be identified under different sections. Two students from Sri Lanka and Tajikistan were hospitalized with serious injuries.
